Paying It Forward:
When Katie and Scottie passed away, I cannot even begin to tell you or describe how devastated our family was. So many people from Templeton helped us....people who knew us and people I had never met. They cooked, called, visited, cried with us, held us, donations for their stones....all things that helped us get through each day, each hour, each minute....This is why I chose Narragansett Regional High School to be the school my children's scholarship would be given. It is, in some small way, my way of saying Thank You to the people of Templeton MA for being there for us in our darkest hour.
How I Choose the Recipient:
Many years ago, I was 17 years old and getting ready to graduate from Gardner High School. I was engaged to be married in the summer and really had no plans for my future except to live a simple life - work and take care of my family.
That all changed one after in May. The phone rang at my parents home and I answered it. There was a gentleman on the other end of the phone saying he was from my father's club, The Acadien Club, in Gardner MA. He told me they had picked my name out of a hat and that I had won a $1,000 scholarship to go to college! I hadn't really thought about going to college, but I immediately said yes!
Unbeknownst to me, my father had entered my name in the drawing for this scholarship. This changed my life forever. 2 years later with a lot of hard work and hard times, I graduated from Mt. Wachusett Community College with an Associates Degree as a Medical Secretary. This has been my career my entire adult life and I love my job!
Each year now, at Narragansett Regional High School, any senior planning on attending college has an opportunity to win a scholarship in Mindy, Katie & Scott's name. It is my hope that someone or something is playing a hand in choosing a recipient each year and that maybe, like myself, will change their lives forever.
